The First Posture Test I Do With Every Client – And Why It Matters
When someone walks into my clinic, the first thing we talk about is what’s brought them in — the pain they’re feeling, or the way their posture makes them feel about their body.
But before we do any exercises, and even before I take a proper look at their posture, there’s one simple thing I always ask them to do.
Stand Up — And Tune In
I ask them to stand up, and tell me where they feel the weight in their feet.
Most people have never thought about it — but once they do, it says a lot about how their body’s working.
Left to Right. Front to Back. Inside to Outside.
I’ll ask: “Do you feel like the weight is 50-50 between your left and right foot? Or is one side heavier than the other?”
I get them to put a number on it. 60-40? 70-30? Just having to check in that closely starts to build awareness.
Then I ask the same about front-to-back. “Are you more in your heels, or more in the balls of your feet?”
And sometimes, if it makes sense for that person, I’ll get them to notice inside-to-outside — whether they’re rolling inward or outward on either foot.
What This Reveals About Your Body
What this shows isn’t just about balance — it’s a reflection of how their body is currently compensating.
Postural imbalances in the hips, pelvis, spine, shoulders, and head can all show up in your feet. You might not see it right away, but you’ll feel it. And that’s powerful, because now, the client has a baseline.
Before and After: Instant Feedback That Builds Trust
After that, we go through a tailored series of posture correction exercises based on what their body needs. Then we stand back up — and do the test again.
Nine times out of ten they feel more balanced. More even left to right. More centred front to back. More grounded.
It’s one of the fastest ways for someone to feel the shift in their body after just one session. And it proves the work is doing something real — not just theoretically, but experientially.
Why This Simple Test Matters
That weight distribution test tells me a lot. But more importantly, it shows the client what’s possible.
It lets them keep track of their posture, and measure the effect the posture correction plan is having on their bodies.
Try It Yourself — Right Now
If you’re reading this, you can try it right now:
Stand up, and tune into your feet. Where’s the weight going — left to right, front to back? Put a number on it.
Then try a simple posture correction exercise like [Static Back].
Afterwards, stand up and tune into your feet again.
If you’re like most of my clients, you’ll notice a difference. Maybe subtle, maybe significant — but enough to show you that your body is already starting to respond.
And that’s just the beginning.
