Posture and Pain: What Most People Never Realise

Roughly 80% of the clients I see come in because they’re in pain. The other 20% want to fix their posture to move better, look better, or prevent issues down the line.

But in both cases, we usually find the same thing:

The body is out of alignment — and it’s been compensating for far too long.

Your body is clever. When one area stops working properly, it finds a workaround. One hip rotates, one shoulder hikes up, a foot turns out. It keeps you going until something gives.

Muscles get overloaded, joints wear unevenly, nerves get irritated, and eventually, your body says: “Enough.”

Pain Isn’t the Enemy — It’s a Message

One of the biggest mindset shifts I ever made — and one I help my clients make — is this:

Pain isn’t the problem. It’s the signal.

Think of it like a smoke alarm. The alarm isn’t the issue — it’s what’s setting it off.

Most chronic pain is your body’s way of saying, “Something’s off. Pay attention.” And that “something” is often the mechanical stress caused by postural imbalance.

When we reduce that stress and improve alignment, the signal stops — because it no longer needs to shout.

I’ve Lived It Myself

This isn’t just theory. I spent years in chronic pain — in my elbows, wrists, and back — and I tried everything.

What finally helped wasn’t just treating the symptoms. It was going deeper, realigning my posture, and just as importantly — realising that the pain wasn’t dangerous.

When I understood it was a signal, not a sentence, the fear lifted.

That shift in mindset, combined with the right exercises, changed everything for me.

It’s the same approach I now use to help others correct their posture and get out of pain — both in-person at my London and Tunbridge Wells clinics, and online.

If You’re in Pain Right Now…

You’re not broken, you’re not imagining it, and you’re not alone.

There’s usually a reason your body’s sending that signal — and posture is often the missing link.

This blog is here to help you start making sense of it all. To learn what might be causing your pain, and what you can do about it — clearly, safely, and without hype.

Here’s one of my favourite posture resets — a simple exercise that’s helped thousands of my clients start to relieve pain and feel more at ease in their body.
