Reducing risk of pain and injuries case study

This client came to see me because he wanted to reduce his risk of future pain and injuries by improving his posture, a proactive mindset!

When I examined his posture from the side view (click image above to enlarge) two areas jumped out to me.

First, his hips were very forward of his ankles, and second, his head was protruding very far forward. In my experience, these imbalances are often linked with pain in various parts of the body.

We did 5 posture correction exercises during the first session and I checked he could do them all with no discomfort.

Away he went with his homework which was to do them everyday and to come back within a week.

When he returned I checked he was doing the exercises correctly and then added a few new ones in to challenge his body further.

As the weeks and months went on his posture improved and he became stronger and more flexible.

We saw each other 11 times over 9 months, with the first few follow-up appointments weekly and the later ones spread out every 4 weeks.

The photos below are taken after those 9 months.

You can see the excellent improvement in the hip and shoulder positions.

Importantly, this is not from him trying to stand with better posture, but rather him just being relaxed, and his muscles doing a better job of holding his alignment in balance because of all the posture correction exercises he did.

This should allow him to move more efficiently, with less wear and tear, and thus reduce his risk of future pain and injuries.

I was very impressed with his transformation, and also with his dedication and commitment to the process having done the exercises so religiously.
